How can I deal with my oily hair?

Oily hair can be a real drag! First of all, shampoo it every day to reduce the oil. Use a shampoo for oily hair, but if your scalp starts to get itchy or scaly, switch to a normal hair shampoo. If you can avoid conditioner, do so: even the oily hair conditioners add things you probably don't need. If your hair is short and you don't need the detangling properties of conditioner, just skip it entirely. Avoid also any hair products like gels and mousses, which contain ingredients that weigh hair down.

If your hair is oily and dull, try a henna treatment. You can get henna applications that don't add color but make your hair shiny and smooth, or you can go for a color change too. Henna is a natural product, but you should still do a patch test before using it: some people are allergic.

If you want to start with a super-drying treatment, you can strip the oils from your hair by rinsing it with vinegar, but only use this if you're feeling desperate, and don't use it if you're planning to go out in public before your next shampoo. A little moisture in the air, and you'll smell like a pickle. Take a cup of white vinegar, mix it with a cup of warm water and pour it through your damp hair. Give it a quick rinse and let it dry. If your hair is really oily, you might try it as a weekly treatment.
