Applying eyeshadow correctly depends on the effect you're trying to get. If you're just going out with your friends and want a swoosh of color on the top lid, some women have been known just to run a finger across the color, smudge it onto the lid, wipe off the besmudged finger on a wet cloth and get out the door.
But if you're doing serious eye shadow, with different colors or used with liner, you will benefit from having some delicate little lip brushes around. These tiny brushes help you outline and then fill in color, and you can control where it goes much better than a rounded fingertip can. You can also use brushes to apply concealer under the eye, to dot on moisturizer before putting on shadow, or to hurriedly remove a little extra mascara that escaped the wand and is trying to clump onto your lashes. Everyone who uses eye makeup should probably have a stash of little brushes—they're really useful.
