Is it possible to do a proper French manicure at home?

Absolutely! You need a base coat in a neutral sort of peach, pinky-translucent or clear polish, a bottle of white polish for the tips and some sticky nail tip guides to keep your polish tidy.

Do the base coat and let it dry completely. Put on the nail tip guides, then carefully paint the tips white. Once the tips are dry, remove the nail tip guides. You may want to cover both coats with a clear polish once they're both dry; your manicure will last longer with the extra coat. But if you expect to change your polish in a few days or just hate the feel of a second coat, you can leave the polish the way it is. Et voila! You have a French manicure!
