Oral Care & Hygiene

A beautiful white smile and well cared for teeth are a great complement to any face. Here you will find answers to many beauty related questions about teeth whitening, oral hygiene, cosmetic dentistry and how to keep up a beautiful smile with proper dentist visits and at home care.

What are some homemade tips for whitening your teeth?

Brush with baking soda and peroxide instead of a regular toothpaste. This is the most practical and effective home tooth whitening system found so far.

How can I get rid of dry, peeling, cracked lips?

There are two basic things that give you cracked, dry lips: lack of internal moisture, and lack of external moisture. When your lips are dry, chances are your whole body is, too. Start by upping your water consumption, and I don't mean drink more coffee! Coffee, tea and soda actually increase the amount of water you need because the caffeine and sugar and sodium present in soft drinks are all dehydrating. Diet sodas are even worse: they cause you to excrete more water than ordinary, hyper-sugared drinks. (Alcohol is a major source of dehydration, so if you have a few drinks with the girls, make sure you drink plenty of water before you go to bed. It will help rehydrate your body.)

How do you know when you need sensitive toothpaste?

You need sensitive toothpaste when it hurts to brush your teeth. People with tooth sensitivity tend to find extremes of heat, cold, sourness or sweetness of food painful, and toothpastes tend to feel cold when they hit the tooth because of the menthol in the paste. If you're having problems with your teeth hurting when you eat, a sensitive toothpaste can help reduce the pain overall.
